Terms of Use

Miles ("the app") is a personal travel log for iPhone, published by Thomas Gray. These terms explain, in plain English, what you get for free, what Voyager costs, how trials and cancellation work, and the legal details.

Last updated: 14 August 2026

The agreement

By downloading or using Miles you agree to these terms. The app is distributed through Apple's App Store, so Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app; where these terms give you more clarity, these terms are what we stand behind.

If you do not agree with the terms, do not use the app. Deleting the app also deletes your data, as described in the privacy policy.

The service

Miles automatically records your journeys on your iPhone and presents them as a timeline, a map and insights. Your trip history is stored on your device; there is no Miles account and no Miles server holding your data. How data is handled is described in full in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

Explorer, the free tier

The Explorer tier is free and stays free. It includes automatic trip tracking, corrections, manual trips, saved locations, core insight cards, a map of your last 120 days, and CSV export of your full history. You never need to pay to get your data in or out of Miles.

Voyager subscription

Voyager is an optional auto-renewable subscription that unlocks the full map history, premium insight cards, travel wrap-up stories, custom date ranges and places insights.

  • Price: €2.99 per month or €24.99 per year. Local pricing applies on each App Store storefront, and the exact price is always shown in the app before you subscribe.
  • Billing: payment is charged to your Apple ID by Apple. Miles never sees or stores your payment details.
  • Renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.

Free trial

Both Voyager plans start with a 7 day free trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, you pay nothing. If you do not cancel, the subscription starts automatically when the trial ends and the plan price is charged to your Apple ID. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you start a paid subscription.

Cancelling

You can cancel any time in your App Store settings: open iPhone Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Miles Voyager and tap Cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Voyager features remain active until the end of the period you have already paid for (or the trial). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Refunds

Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com or through the App Store. Apple decides refund requests under its own policies; we have no ability to issue or deny App Store refunds ourselves.

Your data

Your trip history is yours. It lives on your iPhone, you can export it as CSV for free at any time, and you can delete it in two taps. We claim no ownership of your data, and because it never reaches us, we could not use it if we wanted to. Details are in the privacy policy.

Acceptable use

Use Miles to record your own journeys. Do not use it to track another person without their knowledge and consent, do not attempt to interfere with the app's operation or the open data services it queries, and do not use the app where or in a way the law forbids. Keep your eyes on the road: do not interact with the app while driving.

Disclaimers

Miles is provided "as is". Automatic detection is very good but not perfect: trips can occasionally be missed, split or classified under the wrong transport mode, and distances, CO2 figures and other statistics are estimates. Do not rely on Miles as your sole record where accuracy has legal or financial consequences (for example expense claims or tax mileage logs) without checking the entries.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the app, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, and nothing in them affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms. If we change the terms, the new version will be posted on this page with an updated date, and material changes will be flagged in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms. Subscription price changes are always handled through Apple, which asks for your consent before charging a higher price.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of France. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protection granted by the mandatory consumer laws of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings there.
